Drawing in the 3D point cloud, we have the ability to see conflicts between your projects current design, and existing facilities, piping and structures before your team reaches site.

How does 3D scanning work?

3D laser scanning emits millions of laser lights and by timing their return, can accurately and precisely calculate their 3D locations, to produce multiple high-speed scans, brought together into one system. It works in conjunction with a total station and gives you a live coordinate based smart model, aka BIM (Building Information Model).

A tripod mounted laser measures the plant from a series of positions, recording millions of points at each one. Combined, those scans become a dimensionally accurate record of tanks, piping, structures and equipment that your engineers can measure from without going back to site.

Yes. Laser scanning is line of sight and contact free, so there is no hot work and nothing has to be isolated. We plan scan positions with your operations team around access, permits and traffic, and most of a facility can be captured from grade and existing walkways.

A site orientation, an escort where your procedures require one, and any existing drawings so the model matches how your plant is labelled. Knowing which areas are restricted and when they can be accessed lets us plan scan positions in advance and keep time on site short.

The point cloud records the facility as it was actually built rather than as it was drawn, so new spools and supports are modelled against real positions. Clash detection against the existing structure catches interferences before fabrication, which is where most brownfield rework starts.
